• A big fat book that is very comprehensive and up-to-date. Expensive like all school textbooks are. Required reading for our nursing school. A bit difficult to carry around in a book bag with all my other nursing books. Perhaps someday all higher education classes will be using digital versions of these books, which will be good for the environment and on students' backs!
• Great book and a must for any RN Student. The price was great and the information is fabulous. Easy to understand.
• This book covers everything from evidence based practice to line placement, infusion, fluid and electrolytes, equipment, lab draws, complications, INS standards and infection control. Good book to study for INS or AVA certification.
  Highly recommend this book for new employees of vascular access teams or infusion centers who do not have any vascular access or infusion experience.
• I had to purchase this book for nursing school, I wish I had not purchased this book for nursing school. I did not find that there was any more useful information in this book than there was in my textbook, or the internet. If you can avoid it, don't buy this book.
• We were supposed to read this PLUS Potter and Perry for skills. No. For one, I don't know about you, but I'm not getting anything out of reading 10 pages for a 5 minute procedure. Get skills videos, find hawknurse on YouTube, and use this book. It has these wonderful charts that will save your time and attention span.
• this is an informative book, it arrived quickly and has a lot of good information in it. it is a college grade book, i like it and feel like it was worth the money
• Poorly written book. Not user friendly and very hard to study from. The CD is not helpful at all. Really wish this book was not required for my class.

The merging of Serena Wieder's Floortime approach with Harry Wachs's cognitive approach to vision is a powerful combination, and provides wonderful insights into a wide array of developmental processes. As an admirer of Serena Wieder's previous publications, I was anxious to see how she would integrate the emotional component of development with vision. As a colleague of Dr. Wachs, I have been looking forward to his update of Thinking Goes to School which is nearly 40 years old, but remains a standard in our field.
  
  It's a pleasure to say that the book exceeded even my high expectations. The developmental tables and charts are very well organized. The clinical vignettes presented are a wonderful help to the reader in utilizing the information. But the crown jewel for me was the 300 page manual by Dr. Wachs embedded in the book. It is a "how to" guide on many useful procedures with very explicit directions, clear rationales, and helpful photos and illustrations. My staff and I have already begun to revise some of our printed directions to patients based on material in this book, and it will make it easier and more efficient for parents and other professionals to collaborate on some of these procedures as prescribed or assigned activities.
  
  I highly commend Drs. Wieder and Wachs for the thought that went into writing and organizing this book, and it's wonderful to see it as a signature publication for Profectum.

• The first time I saw the animated short based on this comic book I was thrilled!
  So I've decided to see the original work AMAZING!
• This has to be one of the most adventurous illustrations I've seen. It makes it feel like the characters are part of an animated cartoon. The feel of the atmosphere is unique. Great read. Even though it was in french I could understand everything that was happening thanks to way the characters were illustrated
• I love it. I don't speak French but my wife does, so I've been having her read this to me. Comics aren't her thing but even she likes the aesthetic and Koyot is a great character. Can't wait to be read volumes 2 and 3!
• Amazing art style, I only wish it was in English.

• The U.S. has an illusion that it has the best health care in the world. We are fantastic at acute care but struggle with providing excellent care for chronic conditions because the system is not designed to address these issues effectively. Doctors are paid to treat not to prevent disease and it continues to spin out of control. Shannon Brownlee shows us how we got to where we are in health care with bold recommendations for how to transform the health of our nation with several examples of success that are already happening around the country. She discusses medical errors, doctors taking advantage of the system for profit, the pharmaceutical industries role in pushing more medicine via direct to consumer marketing and controlling research, how some therapies are more harmful than the disease or less agressive treatments, how the rise of the current managed care model has fractured the doctor-patient relationship, and how the current system remains structured towards specialists instead of rewarding quality primary care. • An essential book about our broken healthcare system, which has become a business driven mostly by profit. The best protection for patients against unnecessary medical "care" is evidence to know whether or not highly promoted treatments are effective. The recent 21st Century Cures Act has lowered the already-low standards of evidence for the National Institutes of Health, and recent rule changes by our new president have lowered evidence standards for the Food and Drug Administration. The medical sector of our economy, currently at 17.8 percent of our GDP, is expected to reach 20 percent in 10 years, sucking money out of the pockets of American workers. Other countries spend much less, and yet the United States ranks near the bottom, compared to other wealthy countries, in most aspects by which medical care is judged. The number of people with health insurance has been rising, and yet American life expectancy is declining. Preventable medical errors have become the number three cause of death in the United States, after cancer and heart disease. "Too much medicine" is indeed "making us sicker and poorer."

• While interesting overall, this collection has a few problems. There probably was an advantage to get into print while the series was still hot, but this means any observations are only based on the first five seasons, not the entire story arc. While like any tragedy you could see the end coming a discussion of some of the plot twists in the final seasons would have rounded out the essays.
  
  The second problem is some of the essays were redundant. Yes, it pulls from Hamlet. As Jax would say, "I get it." Yes, Gemma is manipulative and Tara slowly gets with the program. There is just so much you can say, and with that many independent authors they are going to step on each others toes.
  
  The third problem goes with the territory. A selection of academics are examining a fictional narrative. Sutter certainly tells a great story, but it still is a story and not reality. Still some of the insights are interesting, such as a mannerbund of pre-Socratic warriors. Nietzsche thought the Greeks were at the end of the line when they got to the niceties of Platonic philosophy so some good old mayhem is refreshing.
• A very interesting read that highlights many aspects of the outlaw life as illustrated in the show & contrasts them with the thinking of any number of classical philosophers. If you love Sons Of Anarchy but long to have a deeper understanding of the motivations of the characters & how those motivations relate...this book is for you. If you love freedom & want to know more about how other people view freedom & responsibility to themselves and their community...this book is for you! If you're a biker & want a different insight or "take" on how different philosophies might view the biker lifestyle...this book is for you!! If you're interested in any of these things THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU!!!

• Each chapter is well written by professional philosophers that are SOA fans. If you are a fan of the SOA, this book follows the characters and themes with intriguing philosophical analyses. Some chapters are a bit better than others though. Leslie A. Aarons chapter “When a charming woman speaks” was a stand-out for me.

• I bought this book (electronic kindle version) because I was having trouble with the questions in my chemistry textbook. I have trouble with chemistry and am a returning student so I knew I needed to get all the help I could get. This book is great because unlike most textbooks this will give you lots and lots of exercise problems (compared to the 5 they give you in textbooks).
  The practice problems helped me get a grasp on things I was struggling with and the explanations are perfect (unlike textbooks which provide no explanation). I especially like the format because I could select a section I knew I needed help with and practice without feeling overwhelmed; buying the kindle version worked great for me too because it allowed me to do some problems on my lunch break (I have access to a computer) and don't have to lug an extra book around.
  I bought this series for statistics and anatomy and physiology hopefully they'll be as good as this one!

• This book is gorgeous, chock full of stunning thick, colorful, glossy pages. The information is spectacular, but for me, a bit off in my future. • This was technically a re-read for me, but since the first time I read this book was in seventh grade (that's about six years ago) it was like reading it for the first time. The only thing I remembered was that I liked it a lot, and that the satyrs were funny. Neither of those facts changed.
  
  Fablehaven is about Kendra and Seth, a brother and sister who go to stay part of the summer with their rather reclusive grandfather (they're grandmother is mysteriously absent). While there they discover that not all is what it seems and that they're grandparents run a place called Fablehaven- a haven for the magical creatures. Very few things there are safe, and Kendra and Seth have a lot to learn if they're ever going to be the caretakers.
  
  This is one of those books I think everyone should read. I know it's a middle grade book, but like Harry Potter and Percy Jackson it is just as enjoyable for older readers. For one, it doesn't "talk down" to the readers. It treats everyone like a knowledgable reader and the mystery and plot have enough twists and turns for anyone to enjoy. It kept me on the edge of my seat. It also completely transported me to the world of Fablehaven, and the setting was so pervasive I found myself daydreaming about it in my spare time.
  
  A major plus for this book was the two main characters. While Kendra is the protagonist for most of the story, Seth does get a bit of spotlight. They're both super realistic, actually acting their age (she's in eighth grade, he's in sixth) in many ways without being too immature. I will admit that Seth did become a bit annoying, since he causes quite a few problems, but I'm fairly certain this will allow readers to really watch him grow up over the course of the series. The best part about them was their relationship- they acted like real siblings! I cannot count the number of times I've found a sibling relationship to so closely mirror the one I have with my brother. It was so refreshing to see the regular bickering and teasing without making either of them seem like a brat. It also allowed me to connect a ton with Kendra, who's a very likable heroine.
  
  So I'd definitely recommend this to everyone. It's perfect for fans of Harry Potter and Percy Jackson, for sure. It's really just one of the best middle grade novels I've read in a while, and I can't wait to read many, many more in this series (which has, thankfully, been completed so I won't have to wait between novels).
• Kendra and Seth must spend a week with their grandparents when Mom and Dad are called away unexpectedly. They do not know these grandparents very well and the kids are beyond annoyed that they are being left with them. The house is beautiful and the yard is amazing, but there is something strange about this place. The kids learn that they are spending this week on one of the most important preserves for magical creatures and their grandfather is the caretaker. In the woods beyond the yard live creatures great and small, good and evil. After a series of dangerous events, Kendra and Seth need to take chances on which creatures they can trust to help them while avoiding those that will hurt them.
  
  I absolutely love to drift off into a world of young-adult, fantasy fiction from time to time. They are the perfect remedy after a long, drawn-out read. It is hard to find a series that has a good balance of worthwhile writing and youthful creativity. I was directed to Fablehaven awhile back, but had my doubts. Once I finally got started, I flew through the book and was entertained throughout (I did take one exception with the constant and blatant disregard for authority from Seth, but I see it was necessary to move the story along). I am excited about this magical world created by Brandon Mull. I do not like to read any series back-to-back, but I look forward to reading book 2 soon.
• Fablehaven is one of my favorite fantasy series and as such I was eager to take a look at this activity book related to the series. The book does not disappoint. The book is full of secret codes, recipes to try out, and your own preserve to create. Readers who enjoy interactive books that inspire imaginative play are bound to enjoy this book. Writing, drawing, coloring, designing, and word games punctuate this fun book. Hours of creative enjoyment are contained in this book. The sheer variety of different activities and games makes this a great book for both individual and group activities. One could even use the book to set up a Fablehaven party to celebrate the series or the upcoming sequel series that comes out in March 2017. If you have a Fablehaven lover in your house, this book is a must.
• This book was one of my favorite books. The author is Brandon Mull. If you have ever read any of his other series you will love this one😃!
  
  I would have given it a 4 ½ star rating if that was how this was set up. My least favorite part was that the cover looks different than the scene in the book that it comes from.
  
  I did say that I liked it though, and I do. It was funny and explains Kendra and Seth’s relationship as sister and brother really well👍. It was fun to find all of the little connections to the Five Kingdoms.
  
  I recommend that you read his series in the order of Beyonders, Five Kingdoms, Fablehaven, then Dragonwatch to fully appreciate the connections. Also, after reading Fablehaven(book 1) flip to the back of the last page and scan over it😉. I’d say the funniest thing in the book was when they had to give a cave troll a massage in exchange for information, and I’d better not say what the most exciting part is😏.
  
  I would recommend this book to anyone who likes mythical creatures, adventures, thrilling tales, mysteries, or, as I already said, other series by Brandon Mull.

• Bien el libro de hecho que suma. Es como tener una conversación con alguien que te cuenta una historia. Quizás por eso escala y queda retenida en nuestro sub-consiente. Este libro me ha ayuda afianzar ideas que pensaba que no tenían lógica alguna mas que una simple rebelión informática del por qué hacer esto de tal forma.
  
  Solo en el apartado de estimaciones. Lo concretaría con algo más real, por ejemplo algún caso que nos lleve a imaginarnos una estimación realizado en ese mundo de la agilidad.

• Authentication is one of the 4 pillars of information security(authorization, confidentiality and integrity being the other three); but very little has directly been written directly on the topic outside of the academic community; until this book.
  Authentication From Passwords to Public Keys is an excellent work that covers all of the direct areas of authentication. Authentication is a huge challenge in that most users would prefer to have their passwords short and easy to remember, which is exactly what a password should not be.
  Even if there were a lot of other books available on the subject, Authentication From Passwords to Public Keys still would be required reading.
• An exciting book on authentication, of all things? Is such a thing even possible? Yes, Richard E. Smith proves it by publishing Authentication - a comprehensive guide to all things that authenticate or are authenticated. The book will educate you on more aspects of authentication than you ever wanted to know, but most likely you will enjoy it. As a security professional, I found the author's writing style to be excellent and even entertaining, a clear sign of writing by a true expert on the subject.
  Every obscure form of authentication protocol (have you heard of X9.17 lately?) finds its place in a book. Passwords, tokens, biometrics, various authentication protocols are all described and analyzed in great detail, in plain English and with multiple diagrams. Another valuable feature is that for every authentication protocol, the relevant attacks and defenses are outlined in every chapter summary. The attacks which are not covered by existing defenses ("residual attacks") are emphasized at the end as something to watch for. For example, a 'trojan horse' attack to steal authentication credentials is one of them - apparently there is no 100 percent reliable way to stop it.
  A chapter on passwords contains several creative ideas to make this ubiquitous form of authentication more effective, simultaneously more secure and more usable. It also answers some interesting password questions. When does it make no sense to enforce a complex non-dictionary password? How random is a random password from a dictionary? Why is a bank PIN of four digits secure enough for the job? When it is better to write a password down? Read the book and you will discover the answers! The book also explains public key crypto systems and their use for authentication (such as PKI).
  People issues of security also receive well-deserved coverage in a separate chapter. Various kinds of secrets used for people as passwords are outlined. An interesting discussion on choosing an initial password when providing system access reveals important aspects of this process that few people think about.
  For more technically inclined readers, straightforward analysis of complexities of Windows authentication (LANMAN, NTLM, Kerberos) and attacks against it is provided in a "Challenge Response Passwords" chapter. Computer scientists will find some insights on authentication algorithm design patterns. For less technical readers, understanding authentication based on Ali Baba and a cave of treasures will help to sort through the authentication system requirements and peculiarities. Overall, the book (while being targeted at security professionals) contains something for almost everyone interested in how computers tell that whoever is sitting at the console is who she says she is.

• There is no other way to put it -- this is an excellent book. Not only does Mr. Smith give us a detailed analysis of the major authentication protocols that are used in today's IT environment, but he also points out the relative strengths and weaknesses for each protocol. This is really important stuff to know -- all too often the marketing hype for systems such as PKI, biometrics, Kerberos, strong passwords, etc would lead one to believe that each of these solutions offers a bullet-proof approach to authentication security. It isn't to say that any of the protocols covered in this book are inadequate, but it is important to understand how each of them can be subverted so that one can intelligently weigh the risks of compromise before implementing a specific protocol.
  Add to that that this is a really enjoyable book to read -- that makes it worth the purchase price and the time to read it.
• Prior to reading this book it appeared to me as though there was an endless supply of Authentication methods, none of which I could distinguish between in any practical sense. I have talked with vendors of biometric solutions, token solutions, software certificate solutions, and full blown PKI solutions and each one will tell you how there solutions is more secure, scalable, and cost effective then all other methods and until now I have been unable to find an objective and informative source of information as to the strengths and weakness of each product. After reading Richard Smiths "Authentication From Passwords to Public Keys" I now feel like I have enough information to return to the vendors of these product and distinguish fact from fiction.
  In addition to empowering me, believe it or not the book was actually fun to read. I do not have an overly technical background but the book was never over my head. There was enough detail to challenge and expand my current level of understanding but not so much that it bogged me down in technical jargon. Interesting stories littered throughout the book put the technologies in historical perspective and give the reader a better understanding of the evolution of Authentication while at the same time driving the book forward, which ultimately makes it a fairly quick read.
  All in all I have to say I was extremely impressed with the way Richard Smith has tackled this subject and would encourage people interested in security or authentication to read "Authentication From Passwords to Public Keys."
• It's a must for anyone who needs to have a deep and clear understanding of the world of the authentication.
  I'm a research assistant, having finished my Master of Sciences in Electronic Commerce (2003) in the Department of Computer Science and Operations Research at Université de Montréal (Montreal (QC) Canada) and who has written a master's thesis called "ASEMC-Authentication for a SEcure M-Commerce". The book has brought me great contributions in a very clear language even if it is a technical matter. It makes extensive use of pictures, schemas, and graphs that allow us easily understand the authentication methods. Actually, it makes use of the visual intelligence of each one of us!

Traditional religious ideas weren't successful in capturing the imagination of a generation recently emerged from two very destructive wars and a successful economy that allowed for more leisure time to discuss new ideas. Many of the old ideas weren't holding water, and esotericism helped to feed the void. This book is deeper than the cover looks. • In my late teens and early 20s, I became obsessed with mysticism. While I was never much good at meditation or ceremonial magic, and never had the guts to ask anyone for hallucinogens, I made up for that in my volume of reading. Alan Watts, Ken Wilber, Aleister Crowley, Israel Regardie, G.I. Gurdjieff, P.D. Ouspensky, Donald Michael Kraig, Carlos Castaneda, Anton LaVey, Michael Aquino, Don Webb, Stephen Flowers, Robert Anton Wilson, Timothy Leary, Robert Thurman, Herman Hesse, Ram Dass, Lama Surya Das, Reginald Rey, Dion Fortune, Peter J. Carroll, and Phil Hine were just a portion of the authors on my voracious reading list. Disinformation (publisher of Turn Off Your Mind) was, to my high school self, a doorway into the unknown, away from the mundane world that I felt condemned to living in a small city in the decidedly mundane upper midwest. What especially intrigued me was not only the states of consciousness that people could achieve, but the unconventional lifestyles many led. I wanted to lead a life like that, too!
  
  So did Gary Lachman (nee Valentine, who recounts his "roccult" lifestyle in New York Rocker My Life in the Blank Generation with Blondie, Iggy Pop, and Others, 1974-1981). Born too late for the decade he recounts in Turn Off Your Mind, he embraced the backlash of 1970s punk (which set the scene for the gothic and industrial soundtrack of my own youthful rebellion), only to become jaded by the consequences of a life lived without limits that he saw play out around him. This book is a recounting of the roots of the 1960s countercultural explosion in the re-emergence of, of all things, late Victorian and early Edwardian occultism- the boom in western spirituality brought on by the emergence of the Theosophical Society, which, after receeding into the shadows during the tumult of the 1930s and 1940s, saw flickers of life again in the 50s- and a bonfire in the 60s.
  
  Lackman's style is rambling, a rapid-fire narrative of biographical details and anecdotes, which sometimes leaves some narrative threads sadly hanging and incomplete. He quickly weaves connections from one thinker or movement to another; despite the sensationalist appearance of the book's cover and title, he's actually rather fair to most of the characters he treats in the book (except Alan Watts, though my issues with his characterization must wait for another day). He makes a pretty good case that many of the leading lights of rock were much more deeply involved in occult matters than I'd previously been lead to believe; while most of the territory was familiar ground to me, Mick Jagger's relationship to thelemic filmmaker Kenneth Anger was definitely a new one, and Charles Manson- a figure I'd never found terribly interesting- came to life as an avatar of how the conflation of nondual mysticism, drugs, and radical politics and social liberation could go together to form a very toxic brew. Other stories were fun to revisit- the rises and falls of Timothy Leary and Carlos Castaneda; the influence of Aleister Crowley and Aldous Huxley on the 60s; Anton LaVey and his Church of Satan; the encounter between the counterculture and Indian gurus; and the intersection of the counterculture with fantasy and science fiction literature.
  
  While the book gets four stars for content, it was clearly an early effort for Lachman, whose style has matured in more recent works. I don't think his treatment was completely even-handed in this one and, while not as sensational as the book's jacket or some of the reviews would have it, he still has a pretty negative take on most of the events and characters of the time. It is still worth reading as a great narrative history of people and ideas that shaped our culture, however, and I highly recommend it on that basis alone.

• Gary Lachman undertakes a very thorough research about questions that are puzzling a lot of people until this very day how come that something that seemed so good (brotherhood of men, harmony and understanding...) went so wrong? The initial idea of the sudden awakened generation "with the new explanation" and with flowers in their hair, ended in massacres, satanism and bad trips... Where did it all go wrong? A breathtaking walk through high influential books of the sixties such as The Morning of Magicians or Steppenwolf, through music of the age, theories that origin in the era of the fin de siecle and are reborn in the sixties.... A book that gives an idea about what really went wrong back in those days, but also draws us very vividly back to those days, and, the most important part of it all, gives a lot of references to other important and influential books, worth to be read.

• This is a great book. Just what I was looking for. I needed a field guide type book on seashells, since I'm a big collector. If you're like me, this is the book for you. Weather you're a beginning collector or serious. It is a good sized book, pretty large, thick book full of many pages of different types of seashells. Each specific seashell photograph is accompanied with detailed information on the size, distribution, depth, and how common or rare. I know it doesn't seem like one, but this is a great big field guide. Don't judge a book by its cover! I was surprised myself. I didn't think it was until I opened it.
  In the beginning, it also explains the scientific anatomy of the shells, and how they grow, the organs of the living animal, different classes of shells, etc. It also talks about the history of man's uses of shells in different cultures since early times and how the forms of shells are used in the inspirations of the arts. It is a wonderful book. It really is like a encyclopedia of shells. I just love it!!!

• As a begginner in shell collecting I have looked at many shell handbooks and find this one to be the best guide to identifying and classifying the shell in hand. It is comprehensive and descriptive to the degree that if the specific shell isn't listed the descriptions of the class are enough to go on to describe whatever shell I have found. But the great number of shell photos are very helpful and usually show what I am looking for. I like the way the families and classes are represented. There is enough information to inform me and yet, it doesn't boggle me down with a biology dissertation. More than any other quide, this one helps me the most.

• So many useful techniques and resources in one book! Easy to read and understand. It has definitely helped to raise my self-awareness and is helping me to control my emotions.
  I related to so many aspects of this book. I really related to Section 1. Vibrational Frequencies I have always called it a person’s aura that I was picking up on. But after reading your book, I understand it’s their vibrations I’m picking up on. And YES, most times it’s the negative vibrations that I pick up on. I appreciate understanding more on this.
  
  I have also consistently replayed “stories” of parents, teachers and friends, who had a knack of making me feel “not good enough” by comments, body language and actions. From the book, I learned that, by replaying these stories I have been reinforcing untruths! I knew in my heart I was good enough, but the stories continued to stop me from moving up to my full-potential. What has upset me the most, is the realization how I’ve inadvertently affected others (husband, children, friends) by reflecting my own self-doubts and fears onto them, instead of being their true supporter and cheerleader.
