"One of my first thoughts as I started to read, was others I know that need this book - then , as if reading my mind, he said it was for me, not others. So I read it for me and am now waiting for the paperback to go over more slowly and do the worksheets supplied. (I was telling my wife how great the ideas are, so she started reading it. She then told me how I needed the book, lol).

It gives help for deep thought, along with self depreciating humor. I was reading about 1:30 AM the other night, when I got to the rubber band challenge to control negative thoughts. I laughed, and could not quit laughing. Afraid I would wake my wife, I shut the book and crawled into bed beside her - started to think about it and laughter caught me again.

I'm not an addict - my life is messed up and needs help in other ways. This inspired compass can help us all. I look forward to thinking about and adapting much from the inspired ideas.

• I’ve read several self help books and the difference with David’s was the impact. It is written in such an inviting and simple way that you feel you are sitting there talking to him. But the emotions and feelings it brought out were inspirational. We all have addictions to varying degrees and this brought to light for me that we could all use this guidance in our Iives. • I have read many a self-help/self-empowerment/personal growth book, and what sets this book apart for me is the conversational tone and how practical and applicable the content is. I haven't finished reading it yet, but I'm genuinely engaged and eager to do so (which is not always the case once I get past the first chapter of some books in the genre). As a life coach myself, and having worked as a mental health social worker in the addiction and crisis fields, I can say this book is very timely and honest in its approach to some very hard topics. At the same time, you don't have to be (consciously) involved in either of these fields to get the value of the read. It's worth the time, even if you think you don't need these lessons. Probably ESPECIALLY if you think you don't need them. )

• This is a very difficult book to review, as you can imagine whenever you read and try to write a review concerning a book about a religious figure. I know that the authors say that this is not a religious book, but instead one that focuses on the humanity of Jesus Christ. They have done a good job treading the fine line between straight biography and religious writing.
  
  Of course, the main, and possibly only, source for the life of the Nazarene (as the authors term him) are the four gospels with which most readers are familiar. Interspersed with these writings you will find chapters devoted to Julius Caesar, Cleopatra, Tiberius, and other historical characters. There is a brief, but concise, history of Rome, and short biographies of some of the figures, including Pontius Pilate and the several Herods. It appears that the authors accept the gospel account of the birth in Bethlehem and the visit of the Magi, which led to the slaughter of the infants in Bethlehem at the insistence of Herod. There appears to be no historical record for these events except for the gospels, so the reader either takes it at face value or not, depending on his or her beliefs. Also, the sticky question concerning Jesus' siblings is handled somewhat offhandedly, with a note concerning the various theories about who these people were, depending on your particular religion. I do take exception to the mention of Herod's "castle", a term I don't believe existed at that time, but it's a minor quibble.
  
  All things (particularly religious beliefs) considered, the author have done a well thought out job. There is no writing concerning the actual miracles attributed to Jesus, but they are mentioned in the text as news of them spread into the surrounding area, so the authors appear to make no claim to any authenticity. Also, the narrative ends with the crucifixion and burial, and then the discovery of the empty tomb three days later. After that, it's once again news of post death appearances spread by supposed eyewitnesses, with no attempt to state any author belief in whether or not these events actually occurred.
  
  Lest I be accused of being some type of sceptic or unbeliever, let me state that, like the authors, I am a practicing Roman Catholic and truly believe that Jesus is who he said he is and that, if I do what is right, he will greet me when I die. Just because I have some doubts about parts of the gospels doesn't mean that my faith is weak. 17 years of Catholic education has kept me strong and will, I trust, lead me to the reward Jesus promised.
  
  One last thing. I know that there are many people out there who do not like O'Reilly for his political views and will allow that mind set to lead them to give this book a bad review, even though many of them will not have read it. To those folks I say read the book and if you don't believe that it's a good book, give it a bad review, but please don't let your political leanings cause you to downgrade the book because of your dislike of the author. There is no politics in this book, and so it shouldn't generate the venom that has accompanied the publication of his other historical works. Bill isn't a historian, but he and his co-author have done their best with a very touchy subject, and I salute their effort
• I liked the way the book brought the characters into a more understandable character. I have read the Bible a few times over and I think I do understand it but Killing Jesus puts the story of his life and death into a more understandable perspective if you've ever been confused by the stories of the Bible. They tell personal stories of the people in the Killing Jesus book as well. Things you won't read in the Bible. In some cases, the descriptions of the people for whomthey describe are quite vivid. King Herod had all kinds of gross physical/medical problems. For me, it was well worth reading. I can fully recommend it. I bought the audio book which is actually read by Bill O'Reilly.
• My 3rd O'Reilly book; however, it does not compare to "Killing Patton" or "Killing the Rising Sun".
  
  It is an in-depth study of life during Christ's time on earth. We read about the Gauls and the Romans, we learn things about Caesar, Tiberius, and Pontius Pilate that we never knew. The cruelty of the Romans and their manners of executions is horrifying. Chris't suffering is described in detail.
  
  O'Reilly does a fantastic job of helping the reader to feel the emotions of the characters, from the Roman government officials to Jesus's disciples.
  He also discusses the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy. However, I feel he fails when it comes to Christ's resurrection and ascension. It is sort of left up to the reader to reach their own conclusion.
  
  On the whole the book is enlightening.
• Most of us know the telling of Jesus as a religious story, but the other half is a story filled with political intrigue. In this book, the political side takes primary notice. The personal issues are brought out, and the minutia of living in those times, as well as the details of the crucifixion, but the main issue exposed by this book are the political manipulations. Without them, Jesus may never have gone to the cross. Some parts are raw, but reflect honestly the brutality of the day. Sensitive minds beware.
• Whether you are a republican or democrat or a conservative or any political affiliation, O'Reily's books on history are first class and have no political biases or propaganda in them. That's the good thing about his history books and that's why they are always number one on the New York times best sellers lists. Killing Jesus has fastidious details on the times of Jesus and on the details surrounding his death. You can see the amount of historical research and material Dugard & O'Reily have done (listed in the Sources section in the back of the book) and it shows in the material and historical details of this book. I garnered and learned a lot of information on Judea during Biblical times and Jesus as man and his teachings and philosophy. Jesus's life biography was an interesting and enjoyable read and the time and money to spend on this book is well worth it for this prodigious book.
• We are told the story of Jesus, his life and death during Sunday school as a child. This book really explains the events that led up to Jesus’ arrest, flogging and unjust crucifixion. Many non believers think it’s all myth. The research done for this book is amazing. Just read the footnotes! Lots of information.
  I have recently come home from visiting many of the sites mentioned in this book. I wish i had read this right before going to Jerusalem and the Sea of Galilee. Things would have been much more vivid.
  Great Book. Those were really tough times....the Jews vs the Romans.
• The book is an easy and enjoyable read. Unfortunately, the scholarship leaves much to be desired. Theories and folk-lore are touted as objective fact. The differences between the four authors are largely ignored. This is the first work of O'REILLY'S that I have read. His disregard for (or lack of interest in) serious biblical scholarship doesn't move me to purchase his other works.

• A very good book tying everything together! Read the first 3 to get the full impact of how great the ending is!
• The last book in the series is just as nerve wracking, thrilling, and emotional as the first three books. Be sure to read them in order, as they build upon one another. They would be a little confusing and hard to follow if you read them out of order.
  Good writing, good conversations, believable characters, and believable legal and court scenes. Also,lots of emotional scenes involving dying from cancer which are very believable and you can tell they are written from the author's heart and from his own emotional experiences with cancer.
  A very good legal thriller as were the three previous books in the series. I recommend reading them all, but read them in order.
• I am a huge fan of this series. But I must admit that I felt very ambivalent about this last book. There were times when the events just seemed a little over the top. By the time I finished the book tearfully those feelings had disappeared.
  
  The character of the Professor, based on his own father, is richly drawn. There is so much to admire in his bravery, devotion to his family and to the law. The last few chapters are so beautifully written and so full of meaningful wisdom.
  
  I can’t wait to see what Bailey writes next.
• I really enjoyed McMurtie and Drake. Kept me up to finish it. Loved how real the people were and of course the shoot em ups. I am waiting for the new series wide ass open lol.
• Taut tension and good resolution for this series. The level of violence in this book was excessive and sometimes it felt like a modern-day GOT episode. Like the way author writes women characters and look forward to reading whatever he does next. Really enjoyed reading an interesting story that was set in AL and TN.
• I grew up and still live in Huntsville. Never before have I read a series where I am such a part of the story because I know where the characters are. The descriptions place me as the unknown extra character no one is aware of.
  
  Though this series has come to an end, I look forward to the next one!
• I loved this book and the entire series. Mr. Bailey is a wonderful writer. I feel like I personally know the amazing characters in the books. The action, conversations, location descriptions, etc. truly made me feel like I could see everything taking place as if I was there. These books do not disappoint!

• I could not put this book down. I ready this book straight through with a bit of sleep in between. Olivia tells us her story like no one else can. As a admirer for many years, I couldn’t wait to get this book and it is full of so much positivity and reflection. I applaud Olivia for sharing her journey. A true inspiration, thank you ONJ for all of your music and candor, this is why I continue to be an “admirer”.
• I have been a fan of ONJ since 1974. I had heard "Let Me Be There" and really liked it but really noticed her with "If You Love Me, Let Me Know" and "I Honestly Love You". But when "Have You Never Been Mellow" came out I was blown away and in love. I do admit the last 25 years I haven't really listened to any of her newer music but I still love her. When I saw this book was coming out I knew I had to have it. It brought me back to those early days in the 70s. I fell in love again. Olivia takes you through her early life and her career, especially the big moments like filming Grease, Xanadu, releasing Physical and many more. You will not get a tell all book here, just a nice read. You can feel her love for her family, her daughter and her friends. I know she is just as nice in person as she always has appeared to be. I wish her all the best and pray that she stays well.

• Beyond all the incredible pop music, Grease, Xanadu, and beyond, Saint Olivia proves she is every bit as perfect and divine as we all know show is. Her humanitarian efforts and courageous health battles are just the tip of the iceberg. This Angel delivers a must-read story of a life fully lived with much more to do. She does it all with such a sense of humor and wit that the reader is just entranced by her every word. This is a must read, whether you are a mega fan (like me) or just a casual one. Saint Olivia delivers fascinating tales of a glowing musical career, two chapters on Grease, and so many interesting stories of raising awareness and fighting for a cancer cure since stepping aside the spotlight. To me Saint Olivia is still Totally Hot and always will be.
• ♥️ LOVE the narration! Olivia Newton-John has always had my favorite singing voice and she is so charming reading her own words. So much friendly nuance to hear vs my own private reading. ( I read the hardcover book first! ) It’s like our favorite girl next door to grow up with came over -after forging an iconic career and living a global life journey -to share all she learned and impart the wisdom that helped her along the way. I can’t recommend enough. The afterword so beautifully tied up little bows to a memoir that proved my belief correct - that Olivia’s greatness was always to be of what was next to come as an artist and humanitarian. In her choice to be living in the present moment....she’s walking her walk to be the sum of all her parts and it simply leaves me breathless and wanting more! ( ....for beautiful her and for me! )
• I'm a fan so I knew I'd enjoy reading it but there are some sections (like when she met princess diana and the queen) where Liv just breezes thru with "I cant remember what we said." Would have liked some more depth and details and maybe a little more dishing. ) She also skims her 80s music career - I was hoping for some more insight into her various albums but she does go into detail about grease and xanadu which was fun. Still, it's an inspiring read overall... amazing how positive she remains despite multiple cancer scares.
• Although Olivia shot into super stardom through the movie Grease, there are hundreds of pages here that go well beyond that experience in her life. This is an uplifting memoir. Olivia is a good story teller. Reading her book feels like you are sitting at a table having coffee or tea with her. It flows. You can hear her soft Aussie accent with every word you read. She has had an amazing life. Her family history is amazing. If you like Olivia, or if you like reading autobiographies in general, you won't go wrong with Don't Stop Believin. Enjoy.

At the outbreak of the Second World War U.S.S. Quail was in the Philippines sweeping mines to provide access for American shipping to South Harbor, Corregidor.

Damaged by enemy bombs and guns during the Japanese invasion of the island John Morrill and his fellow men decided to make the decision to scuttle their ship rather than allow it to be captured.

This led them to begin one of the most daring escapes of the Second World War.

Lieutenant Commander John Morrill and sixteen fellow sailors took a thirty-six-foot diesel boat nearly two thousand miles through Japanese controlled waters.

They moved mostly at night, with a homemade sextant, some salvaged charts, with little fresh water and food, but even despite these difficulties they eventually made their way to Darwin, Australia.

John Morrill was a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy. In June 1939 he became commanding officer of the minesweeper U.S.S. Quail. Pete Martin was a journalist and author. Their book South from Corregidor was first published in 1943. Pete Martin passed away in 1980 and John Morrill passed away in 1997.

• Let me start by saying this book is truly like no other book I have ever read on the topic of World War Two. It reads like something that should have been made into a movie starring Humphry Bogart great actor like Burt Lancaster.
  
  It is a wonderful, gritty read, about men who defy the odds and try to escape Corregidor as the Japanese accept the surrender of American forces in the Philippines. It shows their anger, concern and desire to escape what they saw as a disaster. They wanted to take their chances.
  
  And they did. They sank their primary ship and took off on a thirty foot half-open boat with the idea of finding Australia. However, in the haste to leave the area they managed to leave without maps and sextant. This is the story of how they survived, may have even thrived in some areas, and managed to do the impossible.
  
  Inside of this book you’ll read what it was like to take big risks. They hid from Japanese patrols, aircraft and even destroyers. They ate what they could find and may have even run into South Pacific cannibals in their quest to escape imprisonment by the Japanese.
  
  But I don’t want to spoil this adventure for you. So I won’t say more.
  
  I have two regrets in regards to this book. The first is simply finding this book so late in my studies. It’s a wonderful read. It’s a treasure like finding Etched in Purple One Soldier’s War in Europe by Frank Irgang. In fact, I think they were published within a year of each other about 1943.
  
  The other regret is I’ve not found a copy of the first edition, yet.
• With men and leadership like this we could not lose any war. Hero’s in action and escape, the boat and the distance traveled, mostly in enemy controlled waters, speak for the incredible tale of survival and leadership. But the details were even better with the daring of landing through dangerous surf to confront strange, possibly dangerous peoples, let alone Japanese troops or sympathizers ashore. To repair and keep afloat their small boat, to stay healthy and single purposed with skill, good will, and discipline speaks to the high moral purpose of these men and the accomplishment of all American men and women who won WWII. Many of these books, first hand accounts of the War, are not easy to read, regardless of the brave story because of the writing style. Most were not written by professional writers. I found this particular raw style fun to read. The vernacular and phrasing is pure American GI, determined, even cocky, streetwise and often very witty and entertaining. I only wish it were more detailed and longer. It’s one of the great group survival and war stories, and I’ve read them all. Up till now!
• Outstanding book and most excellent, (and pleasurable), to read. Truly a story within a story. This escape from the "rock" of the island of Corregidor, Republic of the Philippines, was written in December 1942 and printed in March 1943. The wording and vernacular magically transports the reader back in time. The author and Captain of the 36 foot diesel boat, (that escaped the wrath of the Japanese), Lieutenant Commander John Morrill, writes about one of his shipmates who's stammering problem is akin to that of the likes of the King of England. Morrill has a plethora of similar references to different movie stars and other notables of that timeline. He often refers to WWI as the World War, (apparently WWII didn't have it's moniker when John wrote about his odyssey).
  
  The heroics of this 18 man crew and how they jelled as a team is inspirational. Their 31 day, 2000 mile escape to freedom is just downright phenomenal. John also talks about Longaskagawayan Point and his mission there, (before the fall of Bataan). He was told to put the kibosh on the Japanese by shelling them from the sea via his mine laying ship, the USS Quail. He mentions that the concrete poured for the pill boxes on that mountain coastline, (just west of the Island of Corregidor), were 2 - 5 years old. Meaning the Japanese had some serious plans that were in the works for years prior to the start of WWII. I have had the pleasure of visiting the "rock" when I was stationed at Clark AB, RPI, and remember quite distinctly that mountain side. The locals referred to it as "Kamayian Point". Kamay meaning hand in Tagalog. That side of the mountain jutted out from the Bataan peninsula in five fingers, (if you will), and was thought to be the ideal offensive position for the Japanese Imperial Army -- as it overlooked all shipping coming into and out of Manila Bay. It was reported that of the 400 Japanese defending that point, only 5 survived that deadly shelling, via the USS Quail and the big guns of Corregidor.
  
  A must read for the WWII enthusiast. Most of the 18 man crew that escaped went on to serve the US Navy for 20 - 30 years. John Morrill retired as a Rear Admiral. I'd rate this book six stars if I could. Grab yourself a copy and enjoy the boat ride to freedom! You won't regret it.

Using ingenuity, courage, inspiration and ultimately outstanding teamwork these men were able to navigate 1500 miles of hostile seas populated by enemy troops and sailors to successfully reach Australia. They were among only a handful who successfully escaped the tragedy of the surrender of the Philippines in the early, depressing days of WWII. A great and inspiring read, and highly recommended for WWII history buffs.
• factual account of determined and disciplined American sailors sailing in and out of sometimes hostile waters, dodging Jap aircraft, shooting some down, etc, etc. what is perhaps most poignant the cooperation of the Phillipino islanders who despised the enemy more than we did.
  Americans have a very short memory and are too quick to forgiver and embrace. More war history should be taught to our students and read by our people
